The Ballad of Serenity is definitely in the top five TV themes of all time, if you ask me. Freaking great song for a freaking great show. Visit site »
Discussion of the theory behind the Zelda music, which heavily incorporates the “Golden Ratio.” Although the article doesn’t mention it, this isn’t particularly novel. Composers like Bela Bartok used math principles like the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci Series all the time in creating their music. Good stuff. Visit site »
The only thing that could be better than a beatboxing flautist is a beatboxing flautist playing the Super Mario Bros. theme. Awesome. Visit site »
Unbelievable. TV news can be so absurdly sensational, man. This station did an entire piece on how the Nintendo DS could be used by “child molesters” to communicate with your kids. They don’t mention a single instance of this actually happening, but they do have the police on hand to discuss the matter, anyway. They do blame Nintendo, because they don’t adequately warn parents about this risk, even though the DS’s manual instructs parents to talk to their kids about the possibility of strangers starting “Pictochat” conversations with them. It’s incredible this can even make it on air. How is this news? Is this really an “investigative report?” And even if it qualifies, was there any good reason to do said report? Ridiculous. Honestly, I hope someone hangs bird-flipping moonites on these guy’s building. Via Nathan. Visit site »

Actually not just for getting Linux on your Wii — there’s a lot of general Wii hacking goodness there, as well. Thanks, JKM. Visit site »
I’ve not downloaded and tried it yet, but the video makes it look darn good. Almost certainly the best from-your-couch web browsing experience available, anyway. Go to the Wii Shop channel and then Wii Ware to get yours. Visit site »
I’m a bit surprised to see Nintendo play this so straight. I figured they’d do it in typical cutsey fashion, with your Mii acting as the talking head or something. But it’s clean, straight-forward, and looks well-done. Can’t wait to play with it when my Wii arrives at my house tomorrow. Visit site »
“Unbelievably, I once again find myself among the legions of parent desperadoes unable to obtain the one thing their kid wants to find under the tree…my son is 25 YEARS OLD!” Funny column from Cathy. On a related note, I gots me a Wii. Booyah! Visit site »

James Surowiecki, author of “The Wisdom of Crowds,” discusses Nintendo’s success with the Wii. In many ways, the history of Nintendo and the history of Apple seem parallel to me. They were both king of the hill at one time. They both got trounced by a bigger competitor. The both made it worse by trying to compete directly with said competitor. And then, they both learned that focusing on core competencies and not worrying about ruling the world was the path to the most mindshare and profit. Visit site »
Proof that the Wii will make you look like an idiot. Also see the video in story context. Visit site »
